My role

R&D Software Engineer at Midland Steel Reinforcement Supplies, July 2026 – present. I build automation for structural detailing and fabrication, combining civil engineering knowledge with software development.

The work

Slab, rebar and strip-footing tooling with input validation, detailing-standard checks and scenario regression tests. Python integrates with Tekla’s .NET API; the role also includes C#/.NET integration work.

From engineering inputs to a usable tool

  1. Translate engineering and detailing rules into explicit inputs and calculation checks.
  2. Validate the inputs and exercise representative scenarios before applying model changes.
  3. Connect to Tekla through its Open API and provide bounded MCP reads and previews of proposed changes.
  4. Package the FastAPI service and React interface as a Windows executable, so users can run the tool without installing Python.
  5. Document failure handling and technical handoff.
